Alternatives to Helium Balloon Releases

Calm ways to let go and celebrate life, without harming the environment.

Balloon Sculpture

Naturally, I think of air filled balloons to replace helium ones.

I can make a beautiful sculpture in memory of a loved one too. A golf cart for a keen golfer, a bouquet of flowers for a gardener, a motorcycle for one wild at heart.  Anything you want.

Enjoy the sculpture for a few days, and when you’re ready to say goodbye, add it to the compost pile in your garden.

Bubbles

Easy bubble mix recipe

  • 1/2 cup of dish detergent (if a concentrate cut the amount in half)
  • 5 cups of water
  • 2 Tbsp of glycerin (pharmacy/first aid area)

Mix this together in a storage container and leave overnight or for a minimum of 4 hours.

GiANT Bubbles

To make GIANT bubbles, swap 1 Tbsp of glycerine for 1 Tbsp of baking powder (not soda) and add half a cup of cornflour – this makes the texture weird at first, but it works. Dissolve the cornflour first (takes time) then add the rest. Tip: avoid making froth when playing with the mixture – stir gently.

Thread some wool (that fluffy stuff, not string) through two drinking straws and tie in a loop for an easy wand for giant bubbles.

Plant Bulbs or a tree

Bulbs are bright and colourful and can be left to reappear every spring to say hello again.  Trees are a long lasting memorial to a beautiful life.

Make a stepping stone

A simple mosaic stepping stone can be a beautiful and practical memorial in your back yard.

Chalk Paving Art

Drawing with chalk on any concrete surface outdoors is a fun activity, and also a great way to let go of tension and stress.

Write a message to a lost loved one or draw them a picture.
